DREAMWORKS MADAGASCAR, produced by Activision, is a family friendly adventure for the Playstation 2 that follows the characters from the movie, Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, and Gloria the Hippo, as they find themselves on the outside of their zoo-sheltered life for the first time thanks to a group of covert-ops penguins and Marty’s desire to return to the wild. The animals then begin their adventure that takes them from New York to Madagascar while avoiding recapture and other dangers. Players start out as Marty and gradually gain use of Alex, Melman, Gloria, and a penguin as they run, jump, and roar their way through the 11 levels based on scenes from the movie. Players will need to master each character’s special abilities and skills in order to overcome certain puzzles, mini-games, and reach parts of each level. These skills range from Alex’s double jump to the penguin’s karate chop. There are several mini-games, including golf, shuffleboard, and a rhythm-based game, that can be purchased in a special shop after completing certain objectives. DREAMWORKS MADAGASCAR is an engaging game aimed at younger players who enjoyed the movie. It provides family fun with a bit of a challenge, some humorous moments from the movie, and an entertaining trip through the animal world.
