Namco’s popular SOUL CALIBUR series returns with SOUL CALIBUR III for the PS2. Featuring new modes, new characters, and a new storyline, the third installment in the series continues the great gameplay the SOUL CALIBUR name has come to be associated with. SOUL CALIBUR III brings in three new characters to the series plus brings back many of the previous characters like Siegfried, Astaroth, and Rock, creating a cast of nearly 30 different, unique characters, although almost half of them are locked at the beginning. Each has their own unique fighting style and weapons plus devastating combo attacks. The new fighters on the rooster include Zasalamel, an Egyptian warrior who fights with a long-reaching scythe; Tira, a woman in a vine-themed outfit who twirls and throws a deadly sharp ring; and Setsuka, a geisha woman with an umbrella-concealed blade. All three new characters feature new fighting styles and are balanced with the rest of the cast. The game has several different gameplay modes, including quick match and story mode, which is where players unlock new characters. There’s also a mode called Chronicles of the Sword, which combines fighting with some strategy RPG elements to create a unique feel. There are also practice modes and a tournament mode as well as a player verses player option. Gamers looking for a good fight and intriguing storyline won’t want to pass up SOUL CALIBUR III.
The game makes great use of returning characters and introduces three new fighters to the SOUL CALIBUR universe.
